Applying Psychology
The connections between the field of psychology and the principles of social justice connect. People who fight for Social Justice fight for equality and to fight for those who can’t fight. To be able to make things right. Social justice links up with psychology with the parts in how people act or react to things.
“Although its values, assumptions, and approaches may differ from traditional psychology, social justice has an impact on our discipline. For example, psychologists have studied many topics related to social justice (e.g., prejudice, discrimination, and conformity), and several sub fields have coalesced around these issues, including community psychology, multicultural psychology, and the psychology of women. Moreover, the ethical principles of the American Psychological Association (2002) even require psychologists to ensure that their work benefits and respects the rights of all people, regardless of age, gender, gender identity, race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, language, or socioeconomic status. The standards urge psychologists to remain aware of these factors, avoid discrimination, and oppose unjust practices.” Even though we might not see it, but psychology happens all around us everyday. Learning about the mind, the brain, development and more.
as seen on the pyramyd above, we see the way psychology plays a role in the impact of child abuse. From the children childhood experience to their development and how this affects them in many ways social, emotional and cognitive impairment also knows as an intellectual disability. They have certain limitations in mental functioning and in skills like their communication and social skills. This can also affect the way they learn causing them to develop slower than a normal child. What does this mean? well the way the child development can change for bad. The child can have long term effects in which the social and emotional part come to play.
But what is the social and emotional part? This is the ability for them to be able to form relationships with others, express their emotions, and for them to able to explore the world around them. This is so important for them to able to do because they need the relationship with an adult to be able to learn skills in which they will learn things that will help them further develop and learn from them. They need the ability to be able to be social and communicate to have friends and also to be able to communicate their feelings in which it's extremely important.
If children don’t have this then they are “more likely to have trouble making friends, have behavior problems like biting, hitting, using unkind words or bullying, have difficulty learning, dropout of school”
Psychology is very important for humanity because it's like the field of science in which is needed. Psychology looks in to illnesses. Psychology can be used to determine things in different areas of the life of a human. Things done on a daily bases is connected one way or another to psychology like emotions. What psychology is that study of a person the way they act and what it means looking in to that to determined certain things. As said in an article called “The importance of Psychology: Why psychology is important” , “ It is extremely important for many factors, including helping to diagnose various diseases, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, and helping with understanding a person's behavior and more about them. Many doctors have been able to use the research from psychology studies to develop drugs and medicine to help with alleviating certain illnesses”
Taking this class made me learn a lot. To be able to be more aware of my feelings and other people's feelings. I also learned more about how the brain works and how the brain is a huge part of development and all these things that control everything about you. Definitely something new and awesome to learn.
